? >> well, i think tell have the same deflatingesque as the jobs report after the democratic convention last time did. last month, it came out the day after obama's speech. i think it took some wind out of his sails. but i think there were very specific things things that romy accomplished that is important to focus on. number 1, obama agreed there was no difference between them on social security. and obama agreed that neither of their medicare plans would hurt existing elderly or anyone about to retire. they disagreed on the $716 million that obama caught current retiree, but the medi-scare and the social security scare tactic can't be used because obama stipulated that that won't be a problem. i think by failing to raise the 45%, the cayman islands and the tax return and the bain capital, obama was basically conceding that those are not legitimate shots. how can you spend $200 million advertising to push these facts and then when you confront the guy, you don't mention them? >> greta: you see -- i actually thought that that was smart because he looks like he is above this.

people think was not his best performance. this is reid wilson. tell us what do you think about the debate and how is the last sort of 24 hours have gone? >> it's so funny to see the guy on the trail yesterday in president obama and wonder where he was on wednesday night during the debate. this is a candidate who always has been so fired up and he speaks so well, and yet where was he wednesday. and on the other side of the stage, who was that guy after several lackluster debates, mitt romney does not present alterably well, and yet he showed up. that really surprised me. i mean it seemed like the two candidates sort of reversed roles for a night, and it ended up hurting president obama there significantly. i think was an opportunity for obama to sort of shut the door on romney. we have had a couple of weeks now of just terrible news. from the democratic convention which was so much better than the republican convention in terms of getting results and actually sort of promoting the agenda, so, you know, the 47% video that came out that really had age pact. that had an impact not just

, jobs report gives obama a much-needed boost. i have to tell you, on wall street people are picking apart these numbers with a fine tooth comb. a lot of people don't believe them. they think they have been massaged, managed and some white. is the media -- more evidence totally for obama? >> sure. i read the new york times assessment of, you know, the attacks as the book were cut. this is not political, this is a statistical. always. the numbers are volta, but it is not politics. look. this is an administration that has been lying about who killed our ambassador. they have released classified information to help the president in the campaign, so the idea that they would cook the books in this is not so far-fetched. whether they did, i don't know, but the problem is they have no credibility. gerri: it's interesting because romney favorability ratings just about 50% for the first time. is the sustainable? >> i believe it is. his performance was one of the best, i think anybody has seen in a long time. there was not a single moment. it was a consistent 90 minutes of grade a performance

of the campaigning obama than we saw in that debate, and at the same time he has got to tell a story here that sticks to numbers that are real. i think that if one party and one candidate can really stick to the real tale of where we are economically and how we move forward in this economy that is inhibited by what's happened in the great recession, that honesty might carry the campaign, but i don't think that pie in the sky is going to do it like we saw especially out of romney the other night. >> i agree with that, and i think it would actually play to the president's core message about investment. the reason that we are where we are economically is a competitiveness issue. jobs have gone abroad. this is not a three-year process a ten-year process, it's a 30-year process. the labor share of the pie has been shrinking since the 1970s. so i think that that's good for the president because it plays to his message. we've got to invest in education in infrastructure. countries like china spent four times as much on infrastructure as a percentage of their economy. >> there's a big

obama campaign has a fabulous ground game. we can't tell yet how good -- it may -- romney effort may be fabulous or not be or may be in between, we don't know that. but to echo something that fred said, the obama campaign has to have a better ground game because of the challenge they have motivating and getting young and latino voters out. don't think the ground game, thereby nice for the african- american community because i think the african-american community is motivated where they don't necessarily need organizational effort but young people and latinos it's a challenge. so it's essential for the obama campaign to have a very aggressive ground game because two groups were so important with victory last time and are not going to be there on their own devices without a lot of motivational effort. i think they have to. >> that's an important point. a couple observations. i don't know how good the romney ground game will be. i know it will be miles ahead for 2008 for mccain. from that standpoint, you know, it's going to be just significantly better. secondly, fred made a good point
